나는 그의 [Daily Issues]를 듣는 것이 좋다

4년 전쯤 나는 서울 어느 자취방에서 홍진표를 처음 만났다. 그 당시 나는 재즈 피아노를 배우기 위해 여러 선생님을 찾고 있었고 우연한 기회에 그를 만나게 된 것이다. 시범을 보인다며 건반에 손을 올린 그는 제법 피아노를 잘 쳤다. 아니 매우 훌륭했다. 버터를 발라 놓은 듯 그의 열 손가락은 건반 위에서 미끄러지며 춤추고 날아다녔다. 그냥 연주를 잘하는 건지 교포라서 그런 건지 어딘지 모르게 그의 느낌은 조금 남달랐다. 그것이 내가 들은 그의 첫 연주다. 

그리고 수년 동안 재즈 페스티벌, 클럽, Trio Keen의 건반 등으로 홍진표는 연주를 계속해왔고 드디어 올해 그의 곡을 모아 첫 솔로 앨범 [Daily Issues]를 내놓았다. 이 앨범엔 진짜 인간 홍진표가 있다. 그가 느끼는 소소한 행복, 슬픔, 감성 모두가 모두 홍진표의 문법으로 짜여 있다. 4년 전 그때보다 훨씬 건반을 잘 치지만 이제 그는 여유롭기까지 하다. 트랙이 넘어갈 때마다 청중은 능숙한 그의 이야기에 행복할 것이다. 물론 말이 아닌 그의 연주에 말이다. 그는 말솜씨는 별로지만 연주 솜씨는 매우 좋다. 베이시스트 박수현과 드러머 조득연과의 시너지도 이 앨범의 또 다른 즐거움이다.

Daily Issues

In the process of producing this album I wanted to get across my thoughts and every day feelings through my songs. Nothing too deep or emotional. Just everyday passing thoughts, stresses, cheerful moments and the moments in between.

More than a century since it was composed, not an ideal title in our time.

02 Finality

My past present and future. How I've met quite a few, found the right one, and now I have to make sure she stays. I'm certain.

03 Looking Beyond Today

It's not easy being productive, but it's necessary for life to keep going on. A positive thought a day.

04 Thank You For Your Crap

I'm turning 30, and heard quite a bit on the way, but at the end of it all, it's about what I choose to hear and listen to. Yep thank you love you too.

05 I Used to be Cute

How I feel in this period of my life. I almost feel as though I am losing my "cuteness" with every passing day. 

06 Chicken Tonight

One of the reasons to live in Korea. No argument needed. 

07 Coffee Break

Taking a moment out of the busy day, to enjoy good company and appreciate the little things. A day is too long without at least 3 coffee breaks.

08 No need to Change

My character and experiences define the music I create. Bring up the self-esteem. Being sure of myself. 

09 Night out on the terrace 

Ending my day. A moment where I don't have to think and an opportunity where I can recollect myself before the next day.
